In the Tagesspiegel article from 17.05.25, Prof. Dr. Carmen Scheibenbogen spoke about the promising approach of an autoantibody study that was launched in 2023. This study investigated the question of whether autoantibodies trigger the symptoms of Long Covid and whether they can be removed with blood washing. The removal of these autoantibodies by means of immunoadsorption led to a rapid improvement in symptoms, but this is not a curative procedure. A further study is now to clarify whether drugs can eliminate the formation of these pathogenic autoantibodies and stop them from forming again. However, funding has not yet been approved.
