The aim of the “National Decade” is to research the causes and mechanisms of post-infectious diseases such as Long COVID or ME/CFS. The federal government has approved half a billion euros for this purpose from 2026 to 2036. According to Federal Research Minister Dorothe Bär, there is an enormous need for research into these diseases, as current therapies are limited to treating the symptoms.
